Troubleshooting: Why do some videos not play?
Because FamTiVi streams video content using YouTube’s embedded playback framework, certain restrictions set by video creators, rights holders, or browser configurations can affect individual videos.
If you encounter a video that displays an error message or skips during scheduled playback, here is why it happens and how to resolve it.
Common Reasons for Playback Issues
1. Embedding Restrictions (Playback on Other Websites Disabled)
Some content creators or media networks disable the “Allow embedding” option in their YouTube Studio settings. When embedding is disabled, YouTube’s player will display: “Playback on other websites has been disabled by the video owner.” These videos can only be played directly on YouTube.com and will not stream inside FamTiVi.
2. Geofencing & Regional Rights
Many educational and broadcast videos are licensed only for specific countries. If a playlist was assembled by a creator in one region (e.g., the United Kingdom or Japan), certain videos may be blocked for viewers in North America or other countries.
3. Deleted or Private Videos
Over time, YouTube creators occasionally remove videos, set them to private, or alter access permissions. If a playlist contains deleted items, the player will encounter an unavailable video notice.
4. Age Restrictions
Videos flagged with YouTube’s age restrictions require an authenticated YouTube account to verify the viewer’s age. Because FamTiVi operates in an unauthenticated player view to protect viewer privacy, age-gated videos cannot be streamed.
5. Browser Extensions & Content Blockers
Certain aggressive ad-blocking or privacy extensions can accidentally block YouTube’s iframe API scripts or required media domains.
How to Fix or Remove Unavailable Videos
You can quickly remove problem videos in your Topic playlists:
- Log in to your account at famtivi.com .
- Navigate to Topics from the top navigation.
- Select the Topic containing the playlist with the problem video to view its details.
- On the attached playlist card, toggle video selection mode to reveal selection checkboxes.
- Check the checkboxes for the specific restricted or unavailable videos you wish to remove.
- Click the Delete button and confirm in the confirmation prompt.
- FamTiVi removes the selected videos from the playlist, streaming only the remaining videos during scheduled broadcast windows.
Need Further Help?
If you continue to experience playback issues across multiple channels, ensure your web browser is updated to the latest version and verify your network allows connections to *.youtube.com and *.googlevideo.com.
